What to Wear for Headshots
Oct 28, 2025 | By: Midori Joy LLC
Oo, Headshots! But what do I Wear??
It's all about feeling good and loving your look...
You've come so far and have much to be proud of, so DO take the time to plan an outfit that honors this and makes you look your best.
Tip 1:
Dress like yourself, but use this as a great excuse to treat yourself to a new outfit, pair of shoes, item of makeup, or hairdo... whatever makes you feel amazing.
Tip 2:
Consider who the audience is that will be seeing your photos.
- Then consider what makes you AMAZING at what you do.
- What do you LOVE about your work.
- Why do your clients love working with you?
Are you approachable and warm? Detail oriented and meticulously professional? A quiet introvert with superb listening and empathy superpowers?
These are the things you want your photos communicate about you.
Choose colors and attire that help set that tone-- whether they're bright, cheerful colors, or stark and contrasting... soft, warm textures... or crisp, clean professional lines.
Tip 3:
Opt for well-fitted, structured pieces (not too tight or too baggy) that create a balanced and proportionate silhouette.
Consider fabrics that drape well, rather than ones that cling to bulges.
Use accessories like belts to cinch your waist, and/or layers (like a well-fitting blazer or cardigan) if you're self-conscious of your mid-section.
It's also best to avoid trends that don't suit your shape, horizontal stripes, and clothes that add unwanted bulk.
Tip 4:
Be sure to communicate with me (your photographer) about anything you've tended to love/be self conscious of in photos in the past.
I might be blown away by your gorgeous smile, but all you see in your photos is the tooth you chipped in 6th grade that you've been hiding ever since.
It's essential to let your photographer know your thoughts so that we can work together to ensure you'll love your photos!
Tip 5:
Just relax and enjoy this treat for yourself! You've got this! Together we'll create some amazing photos that you're PROUD to show the world!
